Maggie Q on leaving Designated Survivor after three seasons
For those of you out there hoping that Hannah somehow survived the attack (we technically never saw a body — not that we expected we would given the fire), Maggie Q herself has confirmed her departure. In a new post on Instagram (see below) from this past Friday, the actress made it clear that we did, in fact, witness her swan song. She commended the cast and crew for everything that they brought to the show, and also celebrated original creator David Guggenheim, who she credits for getting her on board in the first place.

Maggie does not reference whether or not it was her decision to depart, or if this came about via creative reasons. Either way it’s sad, and we wish that there was a way to mold her storyline in more to some of the others. That wasn’t an issue we just had with season 3 (what Hannah was working on didn’t become relevant until after she died to the Kirkman campaign); it was also an issue at times during season 2.
The timing of Maggie’s exit is the part that may make this the most beneficial for her. After all, she could have an opportunity to join a new network show for the fall, or wait to partake in pilot season at some point in the new year. We have to imagine that someone will be interested in her services, given the more than impressive resume that she has assembled to date.
