Lucifer season 5: When the writing process begins
In a new post on Twitter, series executive producer Ildy Modrovich confirmed that she and the rest of the writers will be back at the start of next month to begin work on the final episodes. As for however many episodes that is, that still remains to be seen — we’re hoping for somewhere between 13 and 16 (that’s almost like getting two different seasons), but the likely scenario is that we’re getting ten again. We have no doubt that the writers will put together the greatest story possible regardless of how many episodes that they have — the challenge is finding a way to include it all! We’re sure that the final season will be incredibly serialized, but still contain at least some elements of the show’s all-familiar episodic DNA.

With the writers’ room opening in early July, it will at least be several weeks after that until filming gets underway for the final season in Los Angeles. The fourth season started to film at around the middle of August, and that’s probably a reasonable expectation as to when season 5 could begin. If it starts in the mid-to-late summer, that means that a spring 2020 premiere is likely.
The final season is going to kick off most likely in hell … but from there, anything is possible. We do think that we’ve earned a proper opportunity to see Lucifer and Chloe together, but it may take some time to get there if we get there at all. We don’t want to make any assumptions given that imagination has long been the focal point for what makes Lucifer the show it is. Often, it zags right when you think it’s going to zig. That’s a part of why it’s great, in addition to of course the humor and some of the great case-work. It manages to find a way to cram all sorts of great stuff into just about every single episode it brings to the table.
Once filming starts…
THAT is when we think that we’ll start to have some more teases — think in terms of casting news, story scoop, and suggestions as to where things could be coming. There’s no real hurry — Netflix and the producers have to know at this point that Lucifans are patient. Think about how long it took to get us a season 4!
