When Calls the Heart spin-off When Hope Calls offers first look

While it may be true that When Calls the Heart is over for the season, you don’t have to wait until 2020 for more of the franchise! There is a spin-off coming entitled When Hope Calls, at least provided that you are a subscriber to Hallmark Movies Now. It’s going to bring you to a new town, feature some different characters, and also give you the occasional crossover along the way.

What this represents to us is simple: Hallmark knowing where their metaphorical bread is buttered. It makes sense for them to offer more of the greater Hope Valley world, and it makes sense for viewers to want some more entertainment in the same vein. Given that Hallmark Movies Now isn’t known for its original series, this is a good way to usher in subscribers. (The service offers access to much of the network’s library of originals, on demand and without commercials.)

Ultimately, When Hope Calls is a natural extension to When Calls the Heart and a proper way to get immersed into the world for a little while longer. It’s premiering this August, and at that time, you’ll be probably craving a little more of this world. We’ll see how it performs since really, all of this is an experiment.

What’s a good comparison for When Hope Calls?

Think in terms of what CBS All Access is doing with The Good Fight, their spin-off show for The Good Wife. The #1 thing that they should consider is putting an episode of When Hope Calls up during the summer on the linear network. That way, you do your best to ensure that it gets an audience and you build up intrigue!
