Leading into its premiere later this month on the Paramount Network, it’s easy to be stoked for Yellowstone season 2. After all, the first season of the show proved to be a fantastic success story in the ratings and, beyond that, we do think that there is some more room for growth. Season 2 can ride high knowing the show’s success so far, and we imagine that we’re going to have a chance to see a bigger and bolder world than before.
We also are going to have some notable additions into this world, including one played by an extremely-notable actor in Neal McDonough. The Arrow and Project Blue Book actor is going to be on board for this coming season as someone who battles several familiar faces. He’s an adversary, but what exactly does he want? Are we going to root against him all of the time? Speaking (via Deadline) while at the ATX Television Festival, show co-executive producer Michael Friedman had the following to say:
“[Neal’s character] comes in fairly early in the season and he’s much a part of the Montana world … He’s a great powerful foe for several of the characters.”
As for what else is coming up for Kevin Costner and his character now of John Dutton, Friedman made it clear that his struggles are going to be a central point of the upcoming story:
“He was living like there are no consequences to his actions and now he has to deal with the choices he’s making … There’s a reckoning for him not only with his enemies but with his family.”
We imagine that this reckoning will lead to some chaotic situations and a few more surprise twists throughout the second season of the show. We’re not entirely sure that it will end with Dutton in a good spot, but it doesn’t really have to. This isn’t really about winners and losers so much as it is the battle, the land, and seeing a world that doesn’t get explored all that much within the world of television these days. A big part of the reason for Yellowstone’s success in season 1 was that it was offering up something that you weren’t getting anywhere else.

It’s ten minutes that should help you to either remember what happened or catch up — given that the first season aired so long in the past, it’s understandable that you would have some gaps of knowledge somewhere along the way.
