Outlander season 5 filming: Sam Heughan on more night shoots
In a new post on Twitter, Sam Heughan confirmed that he is doing the last night of night-shoots for the week today, making it clear that this has been a tough week but one that will ultimately prove rewarding. We have to imagine that exhaustion is high for everyone on the show right now!
Think about things this way — over this past weekend, Sam flew to Los Angeles alongside Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin to take part in an Emmy panel in promotion of the series. That’s something that is key to Starz’s Emmy strategy, as they want to be able to get the cast in front of the right people. There’s no guarantee it will work, but both Sam and Caitriona have been viewed as bubble contenders for the awards show for a while. (Personally, we feel as though the two of them should both get a nomination, but that’s not something we have the utmost control over.)
Following the panel in Los Angeles, the cast then went back to Scotland, and shortly after that, went into production for the series once more. Because of the timing of filming this year, they had no choice but to do the Emmy panel right in the middle of it — and there have also been night shoots aplenty this year. That does make sense given the number of covert activities that could be a necessary part of the series at the moment. Remember, Jamie wants to do what he can in order to protect Murtagh from the British, and we could imagine that there is a lot of sneaking about that needs to happen so that he can achieve some of his goals. Nighttime in the 18th century is very different from nighttime today — when it’s dark, it’s dark. There are all sorts of things that can happen when nobody is able to see or hear from you.
We imagine that there are going to be plenty of night shoots still to come on Outlander, but it’s going to take some time before we get to see any of them play out on linear television. For now, Outlander season 5 isn’t going to be premiering on Starz until early next year — once there’s more news to report on, we’ll have it for you here.
