The Voice season 17: Gwen Stefani talks replacing Adam Levine

Voice season 13 promo

Late last month, the stunning news first came out that Adam Levine is going to be leaving The Voice for season 17 — and beyond just this, that Gwen Stefani will be replacing him. It was a shocking turnaround given that Adam had already signed a new two-season deal to return, and NBC was lucky that Stefani was available and willing to jump on board the show for the fall.

Also, they’re lucky that Gwen seems to be as eager as she is to come back to the show and get to mentoring.

If you want some more thoughts on Gwen stepping in for Adam Levine, check out what we’ve got in the video below! After you do that, remember to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for some more news and take a look at our The Voice playlist.

Speaking in her first TV interview since the news came back (via The Talk), Gwen made it clear that she was still reeling somewhat over the sudden change:

“I haven’t talked about it yet, because it was such a shock. I wanted to come back so bad. I mean, the show is so fun … I’m happy for Adam, because he’s been doing it 16 seasons [and] he has his baby. He’s going to be able to go on tour and do music in a different kind of way. It’s exciting for me though.”

Stefani also made it clear that she had a close connection from the beginning with Levine on The Voice, as he was one of the first people to reach out to her initially about the gig. He proved himself to be a great ambassador to a number of the different people who were a part of the show, and because of those friendships, there’s a family vibe on the show. Gwen’s got a part of her own family on The Voice at the moment as well, as her real-life love Blake Shelton is still a part of the panel. One of the things that we do wonder is if the panel is rearranged somewhat so that Gwen and Blake get to sit next to each other — since the two are together in real life, doesn’t it make a certain degree of sense that you put the two as close to each other?

Of course, we say this and we’re fully aware that Adam and Blake seemed to do just fine when it comes to arguing with each other from opposite ends of the panel.

The Voice season 17 is going to premiere on NBC this summer — more than likely, we’re going to have some more updates every step of the way. we’re curious to see precisely what’s going to shake down from here!
