The Affair season 5 premiere date confirmed at Showtime; more details
Today, the premium-cable network first confirmed that the final season of their fantastic drama series will be back on Sunday, August 25 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. The season, via TVLine, is going to run for 11 episodes, and at some points will jump forward several decades in time. That is a part of the show’s great twist for this final chapter, as an older version of Joanie (played by Anna Paquin) is going to whatever she can in order to properly get to the bottom of what happened to Allison (Ruth Wilson) so many years back.
Wilson is not expected to return, which of course makes sense given that the character is dead. Meanwhile, Joshua Jackson’s status is unclear — word is that he won’t be a series regular, but it’s possible he could appear in some capacity.

Per the network, the final season is going to, as a whole, find the characters “coming to terms with the consequences of their choices, as they make the realization that if they really want to change their futures, they must first face the past. This final season is about how everything does really fall apart in the end, but somewhere in that wreckage, the seeds of change finally sprout.”
Meanwhile, check out some official details on the Noah – Helen storyline:
“Helen (played by Maura Tierney) begins the season involved in an intoxicating new affair with Sasha Mann (Bron/Broen‘s Claes Bang), a charismatic movie star who offers to give her everything she’s been missing. Noah (Dominic West) meanwhile has to swallow his pride and his jealousy and step in to take care of his family in her absence. But just when things seem to have stabilized, a chance encounter with someone from the distant past sets in a motion a sequence of events that brings them both to their knees.”
There’s a lot that is going to be taking shape through the end of The Affair, as emotions are heightened and there are questions aplenty as to how hearts are going to break or mend in the midst of so much chaos. This show has had its fair share of ups and downs, but we would argue that season 4 is as fantastic as anything that we’ve seen from the series since the very beginning. This is a show that dives into the emotional core of various matters for some time, and we’re going to absolutely hate it when it starts to fade away.
