Family Guy – Emmy ad spoofs Lori Loughlin, college admission scandal

Family Guy

We’ve come to see over the years that Family Guy goes all-out when it comes to its Emmy promotional campaigns — even though it’s been around so long in its run. We kind of have a sense of some of the nominations that it’s going to contend for year in and year out — there was a time when there were real questions about whether or not it could get an Outstanding Comedy Series nod, but those now seem to be far in the past.

Well, the new For Your Consideration (FYC) art scene above takes as unique of an approach as ever to pushing Family Guy for a major category. The image was first made available via Deadline, and in it, it’s pretty clear that the show is doing its part in order to spoof the big college admissions scandal from a few months back. Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman were among those accused, and having the art feature the Griffins taking part in a rowing team is a pretty clear reference to one of the more notable parts of the scandal’s narrative — scholarships for sports that not every student had any business doing.

The tagline here of “we’ve earned this” does very much speak for itself. A part of this that we do find especially funny is that Family Guy recently wrapped season 17 — with that in mind, you can make the case that it’s just about as old as many people applying for scholarships. (Technically, it’s older when you consider the break that it was on.

We don’t really care at this point if Family Guy gets nothing out of these ads — we just care that they put forth the effort to do something like this. It’s not something that we get to see all of the time for other shows, who do have a tendency to take a lot of this stuff far too seriously, so much more than they really need to. This is a season where really, you just gotta do virtually everything that you can in order to get noticed. It doesn’t always work, but at least you get some bonus points for creatively.

When is Family Guy coming back on the air?

Think in terms of this fall, more than likely late September! For some more news all about it, we suggest that you just head over to the link here right now! We’ll have some further scoop before too long on the subject, so keep your eyes peeled and we’ll have some other great scoop before too long. Come late August or so, we think that some firm, official details about the premiere episode are going to start coming out.
