The Spanish Princess receives eight more episodes at Starz
Today, the network confirmed that they have ordered an additional eight episodes of the limited series revolving all around the life of Catherine of Aragon — Charlotte Hope and Ruairi O’Connor will return to their roles, so there is no reason to be concerned about that. This is a way in which to ensure that the entire story of the title character is told, and it is an exciting move given that often, limited series have fairly short runs (hence the word “limited” in the title). Giving this show an extension is the proper way in which to ensure that you get a defined beginning, middle and end if you thought that there was more story left on the table.
To think, we thought last night that we were getting close to the end of The Spanish Princess. Now, we are realizing that we are just about at the halfway point. What’s not to like about this?
In a statement today confirming this news, showrunners Emma Frost and Matthew Graham had the following to say:
“We are thrilled to tell the next chapter of Catherine of Aragon’s story as she negotiates war, politics and marriage to the most dangerous King of England … As a company that always produces compelling and dynamic projects, Starz has been a great creative partner and we look forward to concluding Catherine’s journey with them.”
Meanwhile, Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch added the following:
“Emma and Matthew have created an alluring portrait of one of the most familiar narratives in English history … Viewers are intrigued by Catherine of Aragon’s story and this eight-episode conclusion will give us the opportunity to tell it in its entirety.”
Even if these upcoming eight episodes manage to tell the end of the story for Catherine of Aragon, we certainly hope that there are more stories within the historical realm that can be picked up in the future. As a network, Starz has done an exemplary job over the past several years of bringing a lot of interesting historical tales that the table, wrapping them within fantastic production design and throwing them you right into their world. We’ll cross our fingers and see what the future holds, but for now, let’s celebrate what is exactly in front of us. The Spanish Princess lives on!
Since we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves here, let’s go ahead and remind you that there is another new episode of the series airing on Sunday. To get a little bit more news all about that, be sure to visit the link here. We certainly imagine that we’ll have some more coverage through the remainder of the season.
