Siren season 2 episode 9 video: A problem of population
Desperation. That seems to be one of the operative words in the second half of this season, as the mermaid population around Bristol Cove faces more challenges than it ever has before. Take, for example, the fact that the ocean waters around the town are starting to get polluted, or the fact that it seems like more and more companies are desperate in order to claim as many resources as humanly possible.
Basically, what we are seeing from this show perhaps more so than anything else is a situation that is becoming harder and harder for Ryn or any other mermaid to avoid — the threat of the entire series vanishing off the face of the earth. How do they handle this? There’s a tease already that suggests that a baby mermaid could be arriving soon, and that does of course raise all sort of questions. So does the latest promo below, which gives you another sense of what is a key population problem.
Regardless of if there is a new mini-mermaid wandering around, there are a few other things that you should be excited for. Take, for example, an opportunity to learn more about the mermaid world — we think that this is the part of the story where some of this will finally be highlighted a little bit further — as a matter of fact, it really should be. We’re sure that it’s not cheap to showcase a lot of underwater sequences, but it’s important that we get some of this. It’s a chance to get a little bit more of a window into a larger world and there is something exciting that should go along with that.
Think of it this way — in order to get completely invested in a larger story, you need to understand more of what makes the key players tick. You need to know more of where they’ve come from, what they’re fighting for, and how they fully live. We know that we aren’t at the end of the story yet — there is already a renewal out there for a Siren season 3 — but this does nonetheless mark an opportunity to get to see and understand more of this show and the larger world than perhaps ever before. This will raise the stakes for the third season, which will more than likely premiere at some point in early 2020.
