Grey’s Anatomy season 16: What could be next for Alex, Jo

Grey's Anatomy season 14

As we move closer to Grey’s Anatomy season 16, this is a time in which many questions are going to be asked for characters across the board. What happened to Jackson? Will we see Meredith go to prison? These are just two of the most obvious ones.

Yet, there is also another important one to think about at the moment, and it has to do a little bit with the status of none other than Alex and Jo. At the end of the season, it did seem as though the two of them were in better footing and that she was going to be entering therapy to try and get better, following what she learned about her mother.

So where could the story back up for Jo? While nothing is set in stone just yet for the upcoming season, executive producer Krista Vernoff notes via TVLine that eventually, Jo and Alex can grow closer due to all that they’ve gone through, and Alex can also use this opportunity to work through some of his own personal demons, as well:

“I hope therapy brings her back to herself and Alex … [I hope] he gets to heal that wound that keeps repeating, where he chooses women who go into mental-health crises. I’d like to see that story complete for him, with Jo returning to him in a way that’s beautiful … But, we’re not in the writers’ room yet for Season 16.”

Ideally, we want to see these characters have a chance to go through all of this, but then also potentially use this as a means for them to actually pay this forward and also help others. They’re both good, caring people who deserve the best in the world — and they’ve had to battle through so much to even make it where they are now.

Even if there’s a time jump moving into season 6, it feels right to exercise a certain degree of patience with these characters. We’re not going to see anyone get better within a day, and we are probably kidding ourselves if we were to go into this upcoming season with that sort of ridiculous expectation. It could take weeks or even months, and of course, there are probably going to be some other problems that the two run into. That is the sort of cyclical nature that comes with this show.
