Law & Order: SVU season 21 writers room officially opens!

Law & Order: SVUWhile you may have to wait a while to see Law & Order: SVU season 21 on the air, you don’t have to wait for some early news!

Today, the series’ official writers room confirmed that they are open and in business for the upcoming batch of episodes — a history-making one, in fact! Filming will kick off in New York City (where else?) a little bit later this summer, with new showrunner Warren Leight back at the helm after a little bit of a break. What he will bring to the room is experience, but also likely a solid sense of the stories he wants to tell. He has actually been working on some stories within the Law & Order world for some time now, mostly tied to Law & Order: Hate Crimes, a spin-off that is still in development that NBC does not want to rush.

Obviously, one of the top priorities for Leight and the rest of the writers is going to be finding the right person to play the new ADA. With Stone gone, that opens the door for either a returning ADA (we’re not counting on one, but it’s still possible) or a new face. One way or another, we expect an announcement a little bit later this summer.

Of course, beyond that we’re sure that the writers are going to set the season 21 table with intelligent, fascinating stories that show you more of what it’s like to be one of these heroes working to protect victims and make sure that justice is served. Benson may still be reeling in the early going from the Rob Miller crisis and some of the specific work done to put that man away, but we know Olivia’s tough. Because of that, we know that she’ll keep pushing forward in order to make sure that she does her job and live her life to the fullest. That includes with Noah, and we hope that the two continue to share some moments together when season 21 premieres.

While you wait for more news…
