Arrow season 8: Emily Bett Rickards on possibly returning as Felicity
In a new interview with Collider (where she is promoting her movie Funny Story), Rickards makes it clear that she doesn’t necessarily think that we need to see Felicity back on the series, even though it doesn’t necessarily seem like it’s completely ruled out:
“I feel like Felicity has done her time … I don’t know if anybody is going to like what I’m saying, but I feel like Felicity has done her time. We knew this was coming for a while – for over a year – so the whole thing is exactly what we wanted to happen. I trust the writers, and that’s in their hands.”
Ultimately, this sounds like Emily had informed the writers of her intention to leave a while back and this was not an exit to took anyone by surprise. That’s not a surprise, and it does seem like she’s happy with the ending of Felicity in the future going and searching for Oliver.

What else is Emily going to say?
What we mean by that is simple: If Emily did want to return for the series finale, is that really something that she’d want to spoil in advance? The best thing that could happen is if it was done by total surprise, with nobody being aware of it until the moment it happens in the series finale. Obviously, that’s something that is rare within this spoiler-filled world, but it does tend to happen occasion. Take just this past week, when Cote de Pablo returned to NCIS and nobody knew that it happened until the episode aired. We don’t think Emily wants to give anyone false hope that a return will happen since the ending may not be set in stone yet — also, she’s got an opportunity to move on and do some other exciting projects now that she’s got seven seasons of Felicity Smoak under the best.
Do we hope that there will be more Felicity? Absolutely, but we also don’t expect it. At this point in the series’ run, we know a little bit better than that. Arrow season 8 is going to premiere this fall, and we imagine that there’s going to have more to discuss about it as we get closer to it airing.
