Outlander notes: New Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, & Rollo videos!

Outlander season 4

There’s a nice little Outlander promotional tour going on the moment, but it has nothing to do with the fifth season that is currently filming in Scotland. Instead, it’s tied a little bit more to the release of the upcoming season 4 DVD and Blu-Ray, which is hitting stores on May 28. Through this collection, we’re going to have an opportunity to see all sorts of cool bonus material, whether it be the new Outlander Untold scenes specifically for the purpose of this collection, or some of what we’ve got within this particular article.

Let’s start with the latest featurette featuring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, where the two open up about the relationship and some of the highs and lows that Jamie and Claire face through this past season. The video HERE offers up a small tease of it, as they praise the domesticity of the scenes they took on with regularity. For the first time really ever, season 4 gave Jamie and Claire an opportunity to fully be together without worry. There was no more separation or fear that something could be coming to drive the two of them apart. While they face new challenges in a totally different world, it’s not the same thing that they faced in season 3 having to spend decades apart.

What’s also so important to signify here is that this is a love story for the ages — and one for all ages. That’s something that executive producer Ronald D. Moore notes as important in this clip. (Isn’t it nice to see Ron again discussing Outlander? He’s a busy guy and because he’s not writing scripts with regularity these days, we don’t hear from him as much — consider this proof that he is still very much involved.)

As for another video, the clip (via Entertainment Weekly) is basically a highlight reel of sorts for John Bell and his friendly canine companion Rollo. While the dog actor behind Rollo received a great deal of training prior to season 4 filming (this was technically the first new “casting” of the season), there’s still going to be some antics and mischief on set. It’s only inevitable when you’re working with animals; they aren’t always going to do every little thing that you want them to.

This clip is actually just a part of a much larger blooper reel, one that is going to offer up all sorts of moments from season 4 filming. While to us the Untold Scenes are the biggest reason to be excited about the DVD, we know that blooper reels are often a crowd-pleaser and for good reason — they’re fun! If you’re watching a show like Outlander, it is often so serious that there’s some catharsis in seeing the actors have a laugh and engage in some ridiculousness on set here and there.

Remember that Outlander season 5 is currently filming (see some of the latest highlights here) — and that it will premiere on Starz at some point in 2020, most likely. As always, we welcome the latest thoughts you have on this story below!
