Is Law & Order: SVU new tonight? What now lies ahead

Is Law & Order: SVU new tonight on NBC? Given the way that this past episode ended, we’d certainly be game to just dive right in, meet a new ADA, and continue this story with all of its various twists and turns.

Unfortunately, we know that this isn’t exactly going to be the case. There isn’t any new SVU tonight and beyond that, we’re not going to be seeing any more until the fall. More than likely, we’re going to be seeing episodes of the show come this September or October — we’ll be back of course to cover those, but also plenty of news throughout this summer.

While you wait for new episodes to come back, we’ve got for you a few different questions to think about. Think of this as our way of setting the table for what’s coming around the bend…

1. Are we going to meet a new ADA? It feels like a given, but there’s still that possibility that someone from the past could step in and take over. Peter Stone is gone, and because of that, the revolving door in terms of the ADA character continues. What we’re hoping to see perhaps more than anything is someone who will challenge SVU, but also someone who learns from them — someone who is passionate and formidable, but also empathetic. We wouldn’t mind someone who is also a little different personality-wise from either Barba or Stone. Really, we just want to see n actor cast who inspires returning showrunner Warren Leight and the writers — someone who they know immediately they will want to write for.

2. Is Rob Miller gone for good? We certainly want to believe that he is, given that this man is bad news and then some and we don’t really like the idea of him still lurking around out there and causing any havoc. Unfortunately, we can’t dismiss the possibility that he still finds a way to haunt SVU once more, especially with some of the tactics that Stone and Nikki Staines used in order to get him behind bars in the first place. SVU tends to be a world where things often have a way of getting uncovered, so we’re a little fearful moving forward.

3. Will we get more personal stories in the early going? In particular, we find ourselves yearning for something big from Carisi, given that it feels the most like he didn’t have a lot going on for most of season 20. While we understand that SVU is often (and should often be) case-centric, we do like it when there are some opportunities for the individual characters to shine. We also haven’t seen too many opportunities for Rollins, either, in the past few months, so it would be great to see her get her fair share of the spotlight again, as well.

Prepare for an official Law & Order: SVU season 21 premiere date at some point this summer.
