Following tonight’s finale, the time is perfect to start looking ahead to a Chicago PD season 7 — even if we realize that it’s still many months away from premiering.
Let’s start things off here, though, with a little bit of a discussion as to the premiere date. More than likely, Chicago PD season 7 is going to be coming on the air in late September/early October, in a timeslot of Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern — by now, this is a spot you should be rather familiar with. It still performs fairly well here and often ends up winning the spot as a whole. Being a part of the massive One Chicago lineup is something that has benefited this series — and of course, it’s benefited both Chicago Med and Chicago Fire as well.
Let’s get to the subject matter at hand in the title now — the exit of Jon Seda is a big deal. Obviously, we’re aware that there was an era of Chicago PD without Seda already, as he went over to Chicago Justice for its brief, one-season run. It’s a little bit different this time around, given that he is exiting the One Chicago world altogether. There is always a chance that he comes back at some point in the future, but it feels fairly foolish to assume that his return is a sure thing. He gets a chance to expand his horizons now as an actor.

Moving in Chicago PD season 7, we do foresee the producers going ahead and finding someone new to step into Intelligence. Think about things this way — in between Elias Koteas and Seda the past two seasons, we’ve lost a good chunk of the heart of the unit. The writers opted to not replace the Olinsky character last year, but we have a feeling that leaving two seats empty is going to be a little much. We’d like to see another actor similar to Seda in age, someone who’s got the ability to actually go toe-to-toe with Voight. Maybe they’re not an equal to him, but they are someone who can do battle with him and his occasional attempts to engage in vigilante justice. The more drama that the Chicago PD writers want to give us within this vein, the better off that this series is going to be.
Expect a formal Chicago PD season 7 premiere date announcement to be coming up this summer. We’ll be eagerly awaiting what that date is, coupled with some of what is coming up next.
