When will FBI: Most Wanted premiere? Spin-off fans may have to wait

FBI Most Wanted

When is FBI: Most Wanted going to premiere on CBS? Given that there is no FBI tonight, and the fall schedule is starting to wind down in general, we certainly get that there are questions floating around all over the place.

Unfortunately, sometimes questions don’t immediately lead to answers. We know that the flagship FBI is going to be back on CBS’ fall schedule in either late September or early October — as for the spin-off, there’s unfortunately not that much in the way of a firm premiere date just yet. We’ve got a short teaser for Most Wanted below, and for now, that’s going to need to be what tides us over until we get around to the new year.

If we were to theorize about possible timeslots for Most Wanted, it goes a little something like this.

Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, midseason – If the spin-off only gets a ten-episode order for its first season, it could be a midseason fill-in show while SEAL Team and SWAT are off the air in the winter. We know that one of these spots, after all, could be filled with Criminal Minds and its ten-episode final season.

Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, midseason – This spot is going to be occupied by the new drama EVIL this fall, but with its fate uncertain, it feels like this show could take over if it opts for a shorter run or the ratings don’t entirely deliver.

Mondays at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, late fall/midseason – This is one of the more interesting possibilities for Most Wanted, largely because we’re not at the point where we are buying into new legal drama All Rise just yet. This is a timeslot that CBS seems desperate to improve and if All Rise doesn’t fit the bill, throwing in Most Wanted, which at least has a franchise name now attached to it, could prove to be rather helpful.

Sundays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, midseason – While it seems unlikely that CBS would put a franchise show with high expectations in one of its worst timeslots, the final season of Madam Secretary is only running ten episodes. This is a timeslot that could work for them, and it’s something that we imagine the network could consider with that in mind.

Ultimately no matter when it launches, CBS is going to hope that this spin-off, which was originally planted on this past season of FBI, is going to find some sort of stable home for itself. We know that there’s already an idea out there for a third series within this world, but it’s really just going to come down to whether or not the ratings for Most Wanted perform — and, in order for that to happen, it’s going to need a great timeslot.
