Supergirl season 5 premiere date hopes for Melissa Benoist, cast

Supergirl season 3 episode 13

If you find yourselves curious in regards to a Supergirl season 5 premiere date we are all right there with you. We know that there’s going to be a demand for more of this series, especially after whatever unfolds in the finale tonight and the incredible year that Melissa Benoist has had this year (which is why we think she should be nominated for an Emmy).

Supergirl was renewed for a fifth season a little bit earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean that the cast and crew will rush filming to give all of us our fill on the necessary buildup to Crisis on Infinite Earths — otherwise known as the most anticipated Arrowverse event ever. Filming for the new season hasn’t even kicked off yet, but more than likely it’s going to start around early July. That tends to be when the cast and crew go back to work, and with the premiere coming at some point around the second week of October. Remember that The CW tends to start off their shows airing a little bit later than the other broadcasts networks, mostly for the purpose of them having fewer breaks during the season. It also helps them avoid premiere competition from elsewhere.

Expect more premiere-date news on Supergirl season 5 a little bit later this summer — until then, there’s a lot of news worth talking about in terms of story and CarterMatt will be here with you every step of the way.

Can we start off here with just the fact that the 100th episode will be airing at some point during season 5? While the 100th episode of Arrow aired during a crossover event, that’s not something you will probably have to worry about here at all. Because Supergirl had a slightly-shorter first season, and because both season 2 and season 4 were only 22 episodes (the norm for Arrow / The Flash in the early days was 23), it won’t be hitting #100 until we get around to next year. For us, this brings a super-smile to our face, mostly because we feel like Arrow got totally short-changed and this should be an actual celebration of the show itself and the people who toiled away to make it. It’s not the 100th episode of any other show in the Arrowverse.

Beyond the milestone, of course we’re crossing our fingers and hoping for an exciting Big Bad, someone who is evil and imposing but also different from any other Kara and National City have faced. Lex Luthor is by far the best villain the show has had, not that this should be a surprise: It’s Lex Luthor. The writers just need to find a villain of equal measure that they can have for longer than just a few episodes. Reign had potential for the first 70% or so of season 3, but then that whole story got a little too unwieldy and the final battles didn’t have the same weight or fireworks that we were really hoping for.

If you missed it…

The one thing that will be different about season 5 is that it will be airing in a slightly-later timeslot — think 9:00 p.m. Eastern rather than 8:00. As we pointed out in our fall schedule piece from late last week, we don’t view this as a negative since it will have a solid lead-in via Batwoman — plus, if viewers really enjoy watching this show, they’ll be okay waiting an extra hour for it. It’s not so drastic as it moving to another part of the week.
