The Blacklist season 8 still possible, though not confirmed

Coming out of The Blacklist and its big season 6 finale, we know that there are many questions worth wondering. Yet, there’s one other that is certainly still ringing through our mind: Is it possible that season 7 is the final season of the show?

Let’s start things off here by making one thing abundantly clear: There is no official word here one way or another on the series’ future. We’re hoping that season 7 will not be the end of the show, but the final decision here may be one of the network rather than the producers. The biggest reason to hope for more is because this show is such a DVR and streaming monster on Netflix — we’re actually going to be heading to the streaming platform in order to watch some old episodes ourselves very soon! We’ll have re-watch videos throughout the offseason.

For now, here is what executive producer Jon Bokenkamp had to say on the subject of the series, and its future, in a new interview with TVLine:

We talk about it, yeah. We talk about it. Especially in a serialized show like this, where there is a mythology, we never want to stretch it. We never want to take advantage of that. And yet, at the same time, I think we really have a lot of story to tell. Going into Season 7, John and I both feel very confident that we have a lot of work yet to do. I don’t think anybody’s racing to the finish line.

Do we think there’s enough story for two more seasons, at least?

Absolutely! For starters, remember that there are still easily enough open Blacklister slots out there for two more seasons. Beyond that, we do think that with Katarina Rostova now seemingly alive and in the fold, we have to imagine that there’s a lot of story here that the producers can dive in and explore. We want to understand more of where she’s been for the better part of the past several years and, beyond just that, what her motivations are now. Why stab Reddington, and how much does she really know about what’s happening over in America? You can also pose a big question as to whether or not Katarina is actually who she claims to be — we’ve already seen enough other stories about identity on this show and with that, we have a hard time ruling this, or any other theory, out completely.
