Elementary season 7 episode 1 spoilers: First details on premiere!

After a long wait, Thursday marks Elementary season 7 episode 1 — and also the beginning of the end for this series on CBS. The mystery drama’s had itself a spectacular run, navigating through different timeslots and permutations in the life of one Sherlock Holmes. Now, however, we’re actually nearing the end of the road — think in terms of the beginning of a sunset. We’re, luckily, not at the point where it’s past the horizon and we’re starting to be surrounded with darkness.

So where are we picking up with season 7? Think along the lines of London, where Holmes and Watson are working with Scotland Yard — it’s almost a more traditional version of the Sherlock Holmes story, but the irony here is simply that it’s almost it’s still non-traditional in terms of Elementary. We’re so used to seeing this Sherlock and this Watson in New York, working alongside Gregson and Bell. It’s likely that there will be a reunion of sorts in due time, but for at least the premiere, the writers want to do this new story and chapter justice. Hence, why they’re staying put in London for just a bit and allowing these characters to breathe.

For those who do want some Elementary nostalgia, the premiere is bringing you that in the return of Kitty Winter (Ophelia Lovibond) for the first time in a long time. Seeing her again will bring you back to a fascinating but strange chapter of this series, one in which Sherlock and Watson were not working together every single second of the day.

“The Further Adventures” – Holmes and Watson’s new careers as consultants for Scotland Yard in London take them inside the tabloid journalism industry when a popular model is the victim of an acid attack. Also, as Watson grows increasingly homesick for New York, Captain Gregson is wracked with guilt over his unresolved rift with his former consultants, on the seventh season premiere of ELEMENTARY, Thursday, May 23 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. Ophelia Lovibond returns as Kitty Winter, Sherlock’s former protégé.

While we’re sure that there will be a fun case within this episode, we are somewhat struck by how emotional much of this synopsis is. Remember that Holmes and Watson are effectively being displaced from their home — they didn’t fully leave the country by choice. It was a sacrifice on Sherlock’s part. London may have its charms, but for Watson, it represents something totally different from anything she’s ever known. for Sherlock, meanwhile, it represents fully a certain part of his past, one that he was not previously keen on diving in and exploring.

Are there some other people beyond Kitty we want to see on the final season of Elementary? Certainly, with Irene Adler/Moriarty at the top of the list. Yet, we’ve realized over time at this point that no matter how many times we attempt to conjure her by writing her name in a piece, it still doesn’t happen.
