FBI season 2 premiere date hopes; more spin-off questions

FBI

If you’re looking for some more information on the FBI season 2 premiere date, or even just some approximate information on the upcoming season, rest assured that we’ve got all of that within right now.

Before anything else, though, let’s start things off with this: Did you know that there is officially going to be a second season? If you hadn’t heard, that was first confirmed earlier this year. CBS has shown a tremendous amount of faith in FBI as a franchise already, giving it a great timeslot after NCIS and then also doing everything that it can to then promote it throughout the year. It is generating some great viewership, and they likely see this as a great money-making machine for them in the future if they can get it into syndication or have it making some cash via some streaming platforms.

Then, there’s also this: The fact that there is also a spin-off in FBI: Most Wanted coming up during the 2019-20 season. If you weren’t convinced that CBS was committed to this Dick Wolf franchise before, you almost certainly are now.

With all of this spelled out, let’s go ahead and try to get now to answering another all-important question: When in the world the series could actually come back on the air? While it’s impossible to fully guess in advance, we wouldn’t be shocked if it’s in the same exact spot that it was for most of this season. Meanwhile, we wouldn’t be shocked to see it is followed by the spin-off — our feeling right now is either that CBS is going to pair the two FBI shows up one right after the next (moving NCIS: New Orleans to a different night of the week), or they could air one of them on Tuesdays and another one of them on Wednesdays, depending on how they choose to shuffle up the final season of Criminal Minds. They may also choose to hold on the spin-off until midseason, mostly because Criminal Minds will be done potentially by the end of this year if they choose to premiere it this fall. Its scheduling will have a lot to do with where a number of other shows end up being placed as well.

As for what is coming up in season 2 of FBI story-wise, we don’t think that there’s going to be this huge push to really change all that much, mostly because there’s no real reason for them to do so. If you are the producers for FBI at this point, the #1 thing should mostly just be find a way to further flesh out the story that you have and make sure that your characters become a little bit deeper and complicated. If you can pull that off, and maybe even add a new team member to the mix, you’re going to make a lot of people happy.
