‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Eric Dane lands new pilot on TNT following exit

For those of you who were rather upset over Eric Dane’s character of Mark Sloan dying at the start of “Grey’s Anatomy” this season, we now have some welcome news: you’re not going to be without him on television for very long at all.

Multiple sources have confirmed that Dane has already signed on to star in a post-apocalyptic drama from Michael Bay over on TNT entitled “The Last Ship.” The good news here? It’s as much of a complete departure from what Dane has been doing lately. the Bad news? The basic premise of this show really sounds quite a bit like “Last Resort” over on ABC mixed with “Falling Skies” already on the cable network: the show revolves around the crew of a Navy destroyers following a massive global even that decimated a good chunk of the earth’s population. The real truth here? It sounds exactly like a show that Michael Bay would be involved in.

Dane’s character specifically is named Tom Chandler, and he is a Naval officer who is never home as often as he would like and is described as being strong-willed as well as someone who relishes being in leadership roles. Really, for us the primary irony here is that this is a part that is rather similar to how Noah Wyle transitioned from “ER” into “Falling Skies,” as he went from playing a doctor on a medical drama to something more gruff and action-oriented. While this may not be the most original-sounding show in the world, the idea of Dane being a part of it already makes us a little bit excited to see what it has to offer.

Do you hope that this show gets picked up
