Last Man Standing season 8 will air on Thursdays at midseason
Today, the network officially confirmed that starting at midseason, they are going to set up their post-football Thursday night lineup as an establishment of comedy. They’re going to have the Tim Allen sitcom leading it off starting at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, and that is going to be followed by Outmatched, the new comedy featuring Jason Biggs and Psych/Lethal Weapon actress Maggie Lawson. After those two shows, you’ll get a chance to see Filthy Rich, a one-hour dramedy starring Kim Cattrall.

So what does this mean? Well, for starters, it means that there is a clear plan for the future of Last Man Standing and that should excite anyone out there who was even worried the tiniest bit about its chances at coming back for another season. Meanwhile, this also means that we’re going to get a chance to see if Fox can take the reigns of the comedy genre following the end of The Big Bang Theory over on CBS. Last Man Standing is being given a great platform here in a better night with better ratings potential, and we don’t necessarily see the wait until midseason as a bad thing if you can engage viewers the right way and, beyond just that, air new episodes just about every week from January until the end of the season in May. Sure, it’s a long hiatus from now until then, but we know a ton of people out there hate all of the little hiatuses that we get in between.
Of course, the downside in hearing all of this is that we may be stuck waiting a really long time to see more of The Orville on Fox. Given that the renewal just came through and the amount of time it takes to make that show given the post-production, we could be looking at something that doesn’t premiere until either spring 2020 or even later.
Anyhow, filming for Last Man Standing season 8 will likely still begin this summer as originally planned. Even if you’re having to wait a little while longer in order to see the series come on the air, the producers still need to operate under the same filming schedule if they want to get all of the work done in the proper amount of time.
