Victoria season 4: Is it renewed, canceled at ITV? Jenna Coleman’s future
Alas, we must start things off here with this: There is no official season 4 renewal as of this writing. It’s possible that ITV could confirm another season shortly after the finale wraps (this is something that they have been known to do in the past), but we’ll come back and update the story in the event that happens. Regardless, it does appear as though we’re going to get another season. If nothing else, show creator Daisy Goodwin is planning for it. Here is some of what she had to say on the subject via Digital Spy:
“I am working on series four at the moment and that’s going to be an absolute humdinger, because… well, you can go to Wikipedia to find out! … Somebody might die in it – spoiler! So, that is going be a great challenge and is going to be an amazing, really good story.
“Somebody dies and someone new comes on the scene, so there is a lot to play with there. I’ve really got back into it and am really enjoying writing it.”
Ultimately, we think that it’s pretty clear that there are plans for more of the show — it generates ratings in the UK but, beyond that, it also performs for PBS over in the United States. (We do hope in the future, though, that the series actually premieres first in the UK — and we say that as an American. We just think it’s a bit odd for America to get early access to this show.)
Will Jenna Coleman return?
This is probably the larger question to wonder about, given that eventually, the series is going to age up this character so much that it could be hard for the former Doctor Who star to really play her anymore. That will be a tough thing to see given that we love her performance, but it’s almost a nightmare scenario to think about her having to go to work and spend a good three to four hours a day in a makeup chair to go along with just about everything else that she is currently doing.
Ultimately, Coleman’s future is likely dependent on just how fast Goodwin ages up the character, and also what the idea for the show’s endgame is, as well. If Victoria is just meant to capture a certain part of the Queen’s life. She could stay. If this becomes akin to The Crown, however, it’s hard to imagine her sticking around forever.
