Hawaii Five-0 season 9 episode 24 review: Aaron Wright, Junior’s sister, & pastries

Joey Lawrence

Tonight, Hawaii Five-0 season 9 episode 24 featured a lot of what you like … but also no Danny, which we’re sure bums a lot of people out. We also had Jerry showing off his physical fighting skills and then also, to go along with it, a chance to see the return of Joey Lawrence as Aaron Wright.

Wright proved at least reasonably valuable in their case, one that did turn out to be FAR more action-packed than you would assume given the fact that he’s a hacker. We had a carp flip, some arrests, and some heroism. At the end of the episode, we saw Wright taken away and we assumed that it was over. Yet, it turns out that Wright did know some more information about what transpired with a tech hack than anyone first knew. Wright actually set up the whole operation from the get-go and had done this to make sure that he could be both an extremely rich and extreme free man — that’s why, at the end of the episode, he shot Agent Flores who was driving him and proceeded to escape.

Basically, we’re leading now to an epic conclusion where Steve and the rest of Five-0 have to chase down Wright before something terrible happens.

Oh, and we also had Grover investigating a case of a stolen recipe — his brother’s recipe. If you remember, Percy got a job baking some fine goods for Kamekona — yet, it turns out that Flippa’s been testing out the idea of selling pastries wholesale. He claimed at the end of the episode that he was planning a new business, and Grover ended up getting involved as well! If you love great, brotherly moments, doesn’t this really feel like the episode for you? It at least feels that way right now.

Meanwhile, Junior struggled with the idea of the man who killed his sister getting out on parole. His hearing was coming up and, at the end tonight, we saw yet another beautiful Beulah Koale performance (there have been a lot of them this season) as he made it clear that he was ready to move forward. He was ready to grant forgiveness to the killer, especially after he’s held that pain and that hate in his heart for the better of his life. He did his best in order to do what he thought was right, but there’s another issue here: Whether or not his father is going to end up agreeing with him. This could be something that causes some problems down the road.

CarterMatt Verdict

Hawaii Five-0 likes to redefine “firing on all cylinders” here and there, and we definitely think that they did that over the course of this episode. Think about all of the good stuff that we got in this episode — we had an action-packed story with McGarrett, a fairly lighthearted one with Grover, and then also an emotional one with Junior. What more could you want?
