The Rookie season 2 renewal official for Nathan Fillion, cast

It looks like The Rookie is going to continue to chase down cases for a little while longer over on ABC.

Today, the network officially greenlit a season 2 of the Nathan Fillion cop series, giving a green light to what was largely considered to be one of their most-prominent bubble shows. While the show didn’t pull in enormous ratings for much of its first season, it does have a marketable star, international appeal, and does perform well in DVR ratings. There is also a tax credit that should help to save it a little bit of money as it continues to film in the Los Angeles area. Given the way in which the show’s first season ended we’ve got a feeling that there would be a lot of really upset people in the event that the series didn’t come back for more for the 2019-20 season.

With The Rookie renewed, it looks as though much of ABC’s upcoming lineup is stabilized. How to Get Away with Murder, Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, The Good Doctor, and A Million Little Things are among the more prominent shows officially coming back. Meanwhile, For the People and The Fix have both been officially canceled. On the reality front, Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor both have green lights, not that this comes as a surprise.

On the comedy front, we know that Speechless is coming to a close alongside Splitting Up Together, while comedies Single Parents, Fresh Off the Boat, American Housewife, and Bless This Mess are all officially coming back.

More information about all of these shows and the future will come out next week, as ABC has its big upfront presentation to advertisers. Hopefully, The Rookie retains its same timeslot.
