Designated Survivor season 3 spoilers: Kiefer Sutherland on what’s ahead

Designated Survivor

Sure, you may know that Designated Survivor season 3 is coming to Netflix next month, but odds are, you don’t want to wait that long to know more about it! Luckily, you don’t have to…

In the new video below, you can see series star Kiefer Sutherland stop by BUILD Series for a long and in-depth conversation all about the upcoming batch of episodes, plus a number of career highlights that include everything from his film work to some of what he’s had a chance to do over the years as Jack Bauer on 24. There’s also a sneak preview for Designated Survivor season 3 early on in the interview, so you don’t have to wait that long to see how President Kirkman is handling the early days of the election process. This is going to be a huge part of the upcoming batch of episodes, as the President has to contend with something that he’s never really been forced to deal with before: An election. Being POTUS was not something that the character was actively seeking until tragedy struck back in the pilot, but he is now in a position where he wants to seek a full term and do his best in order to enact some real change as the leader of the free world.

Of course, as you would expect, things are not going to be anywhere near as easy as they would seem. In addition to having to fend off opponents from different parties, Kirkman will also have to contend with campaigns of fake news and other efforts in order to swing votes to a given side. To go along with that, there’s also domestic terrorism and other fears that will likely pervade through the ether of this show from unexpected places. This is Netflix and show executive producer Neal Baer deciding that they are going to hit things hard in season 3, mostly in an attempt to create as edgy and exciting of an election show as they possibly can. It’s a second chance for a show that was canceled at ABC and we get the sense that nobody involved is altogether eager to waste it. The hard thing is just waiting until June 7, when the new season will drop. From there, we’ll get a chance to see exactly how the narrative shapes itself.

Of course, remember that if you want to see a Designated Survivor season 4 at some point in the future, the #1 thing that you can do to ensure it happens is to watch the entirety of the fourth season — and fairly soon after it comes out!

While you wait for new episodes…
