World of Dance season 4 renewal odds: Is more coming on NBC?
Do we think that it’s going to happen? Based on the current state of the ratings, you gotta be feeling at least reasonably optimistic. This is a show that is averaging a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and on the surface, this is a considerable drop from season 2.
Yet, consider a couple of other things at the moment.
1. World of Dance seasons 1 and 2 aired during the summer. Because of that, the dance competition had the luxury of airing without anywhere near as much competition. Also, it had some solid lead-ins at times and the show didn’t have to worry about over-saturation. Getting a season 3 a little bit faster may have been too fast for some … and then there are probably those who didn’t even know that the latest batch of episodes were even on until we got a good stretch into the run. At that point, isn’t it a little bit harder to catch up?
2. The specific competition that World of Dance was up against during season 3 proved itself to be rather formidable in its own right. Just think about some of the specific shows that it was up against, in between American Idol, God Friended Me, and of course, being around at a time when everyone is transfixed on Game of Thrones.
When you’re looking, though, at World of Dance just when comparing these numbers to other NBC Sunday-night shows over the years, the show fares reasonably well. It’s at least getting decent numbers, and it’s performing better than Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance does in the summer. We do still think that it may still need to do a thing or two more, such as adding new on-air personalities or a new twist, in season 4 to keep people talking. It’s a “bubble show,” but we don’t mean that in the same sort of way that we typically do with this definition. Instead, we’re referring to it more within the context of it almost existing in a bubble. Unless you are watching the show or seeing commercials for it, odds are, you’re probably not hearing about it all that much. That is something that needs to change.
We’re probably not going to be forced to wait too long to hear of the fate of World of Dance, one way or another. More than likely, the news will come out within the next week and a half, leading up to NBC’s big upfront presentation. Unless they want to move the show back to summer, it makes the most sense to get the news out there by then.
