American Idol song spoilers: Alejandro Aranda, ‘Poison,’ Laine Hardy, more

American Idol

Ready for another batch of American Idol song spoilers leading up to tonight’s new episode? We should note that it’s a little bit harder to prepare for these than some others we’ve had over time, and there’s one simple reason for it — the ABC series isn’t matching up the songs with all of the performers!

What we know is that there are two different groupings and that the Top 6 are each doing two songs — Woodstock and then also Inspirational Showstoppers. Basically, a chance to give you something that could be from any decade to something that is grounded in a very specific period of time. Let’s start with Woodstock, mostly because we feel like the memorable songs from this episode will be from the other theme.

Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin/Erma Franklin
With a Little Help from My Friends by Joe Cocker/The Beatles
Joan Baez – Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
I Don’t Need No Doctor by Joe Cocker/Ray Charles
White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane
To Love Somebody by Janis Joplin/Bee Gees

Of the group, we’ll admit that this is a little bit harder to predict than Inspirational Showstoppers. We do think that Madison VanDenburg is likely to be doing “Piece of My Heart,” while Wade Cota feels like a pretty clear lock to be doing ‘With a Little Help from My Friends.” Perhaps Alejandro Aranda is doing “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”? We could see Laine Hardy tackling “I Don’t Need No Doctor.” Anyone singing Janis Joplin is really going to have their work cut out for them, so those are the ones we are the most interested to see.

Anyhow, let’s now dive into the other part of this in the Inspirational Showstoppers.

Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry
Open Arms by Journey
Through the Valley by Shawn James
Poison (Original)
I Surrender by Celine Dion
Somewhere by Barbra Streisand

The one to point out here is that Alejandro is doing “Poison” — you can hear a version of it below. We don’t know how in the world it fits the theme since the majority of viewers have never heard it, but it is a really fantastic song. As for everyone else, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon would be incredible doing “Open Arms” and Madison has the voice to pull off Celine. Laine feels like the right person to do “Johnny B. Goode” — we’re not sure how that is an inspirational song, but here we are.

We’ll get a chance to see precisely what everyone is doing in just a matter of hours, so be sure to come back for all sorts of additional insight over at the link here!
