Game of Thrones season 8 episode 4 predictions: Who will die?
All things considered, the Battle of Winterfell ended with fewer deaths than we expected — losing characters like Theon and Jorah is not easy, but we honestly thought that someone within the camp of Jaime, Brienne, Arya, or even Sansa or Tyrion would be leaving us. That was billed, after all, as the battle to end all battles.

Is it possible that Game of Thrones took it easy on us there only to blindside us with a larger death on tonight’s new episode? We certainly have to consider that a possibility. We are, after all, potentially gearing up for another war with Cersei Lannister who has long showed that she is willing to do anything to protect her family’s claim to the Iron Throne, and you have to imagine that with the Night King dead, she’s probably going to be preparing her next strike … and claiming a victim along the way. With that in mind, we’ve got a few theories below as to how this could go — and also who could end up dying.
Grey Worm – It may seem like a cop-out to call Grey Worm a top-tier character in terms of importance, but the idea here may be Cersei and her forces finding a way to take out one of Daenerys’ top battle lieutenants — if he dies tonight, she’ll be without both Grey Worm and Jorah, and those are fairly tremendous blows to the future of her army.
Varys – Here’s another way to look at things — perhaps Daenerys and Jon send a spy of sorts down to King’s Landing, and it makes some sense that it could be someone like Varys, a gatherer of information and someone who feels almost immortal. While he’s not a top-tier character either, we do think that him dying would signify that Cersei isn’t messing around. The question here is how it happens.
Brienne – If there is some sort of march down to King’s Landing in earnest tonight, killing Brienne would be the sort of thing that really sparks a battle like no other. Jaime’s fondness for her is very clear and Cersei’s forces killing her would enrage him and perhaps escalate a battle more than anything else would. We also do still think that Brienne’s already had her joyous moment on the show and for some other characters, there may be more story to tell.
Bran – The Night King is seemingly gone now — what’s Bran’s purpose at this point? Maybe he dies in a slightly-less-weird way than Melisandre, or maybe he just disappears off the map, waiting to impart his wisdom on some situation in the future.
Ultimately, it’s hard to imagine a situation where a character like Jon, Daenerys, Arya, Sansa, or Cersei dies tonight — they’re all too central to the conflict at this point, and we also think that Jaime and Tyrion should be safe. Now that they’ve survived versus the White Walkers, we all want to see them doing battle with Cersei in a grand, spectacular way.
