NCIS season 16 wrap party: Mark Harmon, Maria Bello, more attend!

NCIs season 15 finale

Filming for NCIS season 16 has been going on for most of the past ten months — think in terms of all the way back in July!

Now, though, everything appears to be winding down. Yesterday was seemingly the final day for a number of cast members; more than that, it was also the official wrap party! If you want to get a great perspective on it, visit series star Maria Bello’s Instagram Stories — she’s got a great image of Mark Harmon there alongside a look at some of the fun stuff that the cast and crew were treated to, including a gag reel.

From the basic appearance of the wrap party, it feels like much of the creative team was going for a sweet 16th theme — that makes sense, as crazy as it is to think that if NCIS was a person it would now be old enough to drive. That is a long time to be doing a show, but there is something really lovely about that. There may be crew members who started off with young families and are now sending their kids off to college. If the show can last a few more years, it could have even more of a multi-generational feel to it. A big part of why certain shows last so long, if they are able to, is because you do want that opportunity to build a larger show family with familiar faces around you every day. There’s such a warmness to it that it probably makes it so much easier to go to work every single morning.

While the wrap party may have happened last night, we don’t want to guarantee that filming is 100% done for everyone — we say this knowing that some shows still do film after their wrap party, and it’s scheduled out a certain way just because they want a good many people to be in attendance. Cast members often wrap filming at different times — Wilmer Valderrama, for example, finished up filming a day earlier than some of his other cast members.

NCIS season 16 will conclude a little later this month with “Daughters,” a powerful story that is going to offer up a chance to explore Gibbs and Fornell’s history in the midst of a personal crisis involving the latter’s daughter Emily. This episode is, in turn, going to examine the idea of vigilante justice further, something that feels appropriate and makes some sense given where we are in the story right now — this is a concept about to be examined through “…And Executioner,” as Gibbs finds himself targeted after discovering some key information about a secret government bank account.

Probably the best reason for the NCIS cast and crew to feel happy about season 16 wrapping up is knowing this — they’ve got more work to do starting this summer! There’s already a season 17 renewal in the books, and we’re crossing our fingers already that there’s going to be some great stories on the way.
