Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 23: Titus Welliver back as Rob Miller

Next week on Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 23, you have to prepare yourself for something emotional. This episode is going to kickstart an important two-part event that will close out the season on May 16 — and at the center of it is one of the most diabolical villains that we’ve seen in Rob Miller. We know this guy more or less as the police attorney with a real knack for corrupting and ruining lives. Benson thought that she had done away with him, of course with the help of Chief Dodds. Yet, he’s back out on the street and that can mean some really bad news for the entire unit — unless, of course, someone can figure out a way to get him locked up once more.

We should start off here by making the following rather clear: We’re thrilled that Welliver is back from an acting standpoint. The guy is fantastic in everything from Lost to Bosch to this show. Of course, loving an actor when they’re playing a horrific character is a trade-off. You’re happy to see them, but then you remember that their character is pretty horrific and is doing things to hurt the characters you love.

Below, CarterMatt has the official SVU season 20 episode 23 synopsis, which carries with it a little more insight as to what’s coming next:

05/09/2019 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Thursday) : The SVU searches for two suspects spotted fleeing the scene after a Muslim woman is assaulted inside a synagogue. Meanwhile, Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is dismayed to find Rob Miller (guest star Titus Welliver) out on bail. Also starring Ice T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino and Philip Winchester. Also guest starring Peter Gallagher (Chief Dodds), Richard Kind (William Biegel), Nazneen Contractor (Nahla Nasar), Ted Sutherland (Ari Kaplan), Elise Hudson (Aida Galanis), Hadi Tabbal (Masud Faraj) and Bob Ari (Ezra Zuckerman). TV-14 D, L, V

Within this episode, it does seem as though there are actually several stories going on at once — what happened at the synagogue, and then whatever Rob Miller is going to be up to upon his release. Based on the body of evidence that we have seen from this man so far, one of the conclusions that we can draw is ultimately quite simple: That he’s not going to be happy trying to just lay low and live a quiet life until he goes to jail. This guy almost certainly has one thing and one thing only circling in his mind — revenge, really by any means necessary.
