SWAT season 2 episode 22 preview: Hondo’s case hits close to home

Next week, SWAT season 2 episode 22 is coming onto NBC — and with that, presenting you with the penultimate story of the whole season. Through “Trigger Creep,” what you’ve got is an opportunity to explore more of a personal case for Hondo, one that will force him to ask some serious questions and, in turn, handle an investigation that will cause him to think back a little more on himself and his own life. He’s been through a lot lately when it comes to being more of a foster parent, more of a leader, and more of a son. We’d argue that season 2 as a whole has been a deeply personal one, much more so when we were in the first season.

Moving into this upcoming episode, it feels clear that the main order of business is going to be Hondo trying to come to terms with what happened to Darryl. He was hospitalized in the closing minutes tonight, and he was left in a situation where he and Charice couldn’t do much other than sit there at his side. The moment of Hondo breaking down has to be one of the most emotional moments we’ve seen for Shemar Moore on this series.

“Trigger Creep” – The SWAT team races to locate the next place a lone gunman will strike while he is at large in Los Angeles. Also, Hondo takes some time away from the team to pursue an investigation that hits close to home, and Jessica is presented with an unexpected opportunity, on S.W.A.T., Thursday, May 9 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Debbie Allen guest stars as Charice Harrelson, Hondo’s mother.

Given that there are only two episodes left this season, it’s fair to imagine that as we approach the end of the road this season, we’re only going to see the story become all the more dark and dramatic. This is, ultimately, the sort of show that this is. SWAT is a show that does love to feature some of these people out in the field doing some crazy stuff, but it’s also one that is about family, and characters understanding each other and going through it together. It’s about finding recognition, value, and strength through a number of these powerful moments. Few shows excel at bringing the emotional fervor to the table quite like this.

There’s one more question that we gotta wonder when looking at some of the aforementioned information: Is Jessica’s “opportunity” going to be one that takes her away from the team? That’s at least something to wonder as we get into this upcoming episode coming on the air.
