Miss USA 2019: Is Cheslie Kryst (North Carolina) or Alejandra Gonzalez (New Mexico) winner?

Miss USA 2018

Tonight’s Miss USA pageant is happening on Fox, and of course it’s constituted of the same sort of stuff that you would expect — public speaking, modeling, and people arguing on social media. Isn’t this a big part of the modern-day tradition? Sure feels that way.

Within this piece, the goal here is rather simple: Giving you a sense of the results, and the people who will actually be somewhere in the pop-culture consciousness for some time to come. After all, the winner here will go on to take part in Miss Universe when that Pageant happens!

The first that that we’re going to do here is give you a sense of the top ten, which really are coming from just a wide array of parts of the country.

Arkansas – Savannah Skidmore
District of Columbia – Cordelia Cranshaw
Florida – Nicolette Jennings
Kansas – Alyssa Klinzing
Maryland – Mariela Pepin
Nevada – Tianna Tuamoheloa
New Mexico – Alejandra Gonzalez
North Carolina – Cheslie Kryst
Ohio – Alice Magoto
Oklahoma – Triana Browne

The two surprises here? There’s not anyone from New England … and there’s not really anyone from the West Coast, either. This year’s pageant is basically the celebration of the Midwest with states like Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas all represented.

Now, let’s narrow the field down a little bit more to the top five.

Arkansas – Savannah Skidmore
Nevada – Tianna Tuamoheloa
New Mexico – Alejandra Gonzalez
North Carolina – Cheslie Kryst
Oklahoma – Triana Browne

Given that the Pageant is taking place this year in Reno, we feel like it’s already pretty darn easy to label the favorite to win the whole shebang: It has to be Nevada, right? While we don’t think the judges will inherently be biased for them to be the winner, their status as a favorite of the state at least should help inch them closer to the top three.

Of course, we say this recognizing that we could be totally wrong and fall completely on our face.

The top 3

New Mexico – Alejandra Gonzalez
North Carolina – Cheslie Kryst
Oklahoma – Triana Browne

This is the part where we have the egg on our face. We’ve got three contestants from different backgrounds and with different stories, all of them vying for the title at the end of the ceremony.

The winner is…

Cheslie Kyrst! Miss North Carolina has captured the crown this year, while Miss New Mexico has finished in second place. She gets the chance now to move forward and try to represent America to the best of her ability at Miss Universe. This Pageant was, by and large, relatively low-key — at least in comparison to some others that we’ve seen over the past few years. Maybe that’s a good thing, since a quiet pageant is probably better than one stuffed full of faux pas — and we’re thinking here about Steve Harvey just as much as any of the contestants.
