‘Survivor’ meets ‘The Amazing Race’ in Bear Grylls reality series for NBC
Even though he may no longer be a part of “Man vs. Wild,” Bear Grylls is still finding a way to stay very much involved in the world of television. As a matter of fact, he is even getting set to help some other people learn some of his own famed survival skills on a new NBC reality series. The show is entitled “Get You Alive,” and it will feature teams of two (a la “The Amazing Race”) facing tests in the wilderness (think “Survivor,” minus the voting people out part), and there is probably some sort of reward for the first team to figure out who to use their resources to escape the situation. You could make another comparison here to TNT’s “The Great Escape,” but even with all of these aside the show should remain very much its own beast so long as Grylls is actually able to put these people in the sort of situations we have seen him in over the years.
In a statement, here is what the former Discovery Channel personality had to say about this premise:
“Get Out Alive will be raw, tough and unrelenting, but it will also inspire and teach the essentials that one day may just save your life … The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward — but first there must be some pain.”
This should could be an important one for NBC alternative programming head Paul Telegdy. While “The Voice” has turned into a massive smash, the network had a huge flop over the summer with “Stars and Stripes” and we’re not exactly confident that the upcoming “Ready for Love” is going to do well given you quickly CBS’ own dating show “3” crashed and burned over the summer.
Do you think that a show like this could do well on NBC? If you want to check out some more news related to “Survivor,” you can do so by visiting the story over at the link here.
