When Calls the Heart season 6 episode 4 preview: The first without Lori Loughlin

Next week on Hallmark Channel, When Calls the Heart season 6 episode 4 is finally going to come on the air! There’s a cause for great excitement with that, mostly because it marks a chance for the show to finally start to move past the headlines of the past few months and into a new, very welcoming direction.

Of course, you do still have to recognize the obvious: Episode 6 is the first installment of this show that does not include Lori Loughlin as Abigail. It’s something that will be perhaps the most obvious here, since you’re effectively having to find a way to steer the show away from a character who was the Mayor and had a major part of the overall storyline. It’s going to take some creative writing in order to make this change work, as the show has to find way to beef up stories possibly meant for this character elsewhere. Season 6 is going to face a number of challenges thanks to that, though season 7 may be able to move forward and go in what is a very different creative direction. One of the biggest reliefs when it comes to the return of season 6 is knowing that there will be a season 7 on the other side of it — that does alleviate a lot of the anxiety.

So what can you expect to see in regards to episode 4, entitled “Heart of the Mountie”? While we haven’t seen too much in the way of updated information on this episode, the original synopsis below can give you a small taste:

A new Mountie, Nathan Grant, arrives earlier than expected, surprising townsfolk, including Elizabeth and Abigail. No time for niceties, Bill and Nathan jump right to work when Lee’s payroll is stolen from the stagecoach.

Obviously, the Abigail part of this is going to change given that the show is editing Loughlin out moving forward. Yet, the Grant character should still remain, as will a number of other parts of the story as a whole. Tonally, this is the same When Calls the Heart you remember and despite the obvious challenges that are there for producers, we think that they understand what viewers want and how to try and make them happy. Remember that some decisions regarding Loughlin were probably coming down via the network, so some of these changes are ones that they may not have had a lot of control over in the first place.
