Suits (Donna & Harvey) vs. Wynonna Earp (Wynonna & Nicole) – Crime Dynamic Duos 2019

Welcome to CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos for 2019! The goal for this tournament is pretty easy to explain: Recognizing some of the best crime fighters in all of television. The word “crimefighter” can at times have a loose interpretation, but for the sake of this tournament, we’re referring to it mostly as cops, lawyers, or investigators who do their best to take down some pretty bad people and fight to help others. They’re the sort of characters you typically admire, and they have an aspirational quality to them along with them being entertaining.

In today’s showdown, we are officially welcoming you to the final four! There’s all sorts of great stuff coming your way here, as we’ve got Donna & Harvey of Suits facing off against Wynonna & Nicole of Wynonna Earp. These are two shows with extremely loyal followings, and also two duos who really add to the definition of what it is to fight crime. That is, after all, something that comes in a lot of different forms and there are so many exciting and interesting ways for a show to explore it. Time and time again, Suits and Wynonna Earp show that willingness to take risks and show varying degrees of good vs. evil.

If you’ve been around for past editions of Crime Dynamic Duos, then you know a thing or two about how this works — at the bottom of this article is a poll to vote for who you want to see advance! One duo will, and at the end of the month, we’ll officially crown the champion in all of their glory.

How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Friday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. That is when the final round is going to begin, and we’ll have a proper opportunity to see what Dynamic Duo actually sits atop the throne this year. (We’ll be back with the other final four showdown tomorrow; have no fear!)

You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.

The competitors

Donna & Harvey, Suits (#6 seed) – One of television’s finest duos now has themselves in a remarkable position in this tournament. They started as underdogs, but you can argue that these two were underestimated, as well, for much of the show’s first few years. We don’t think that anyone within the larger TV community gave Gabriel Macht and Sarah Rafferty’s characters enough credit for their chemistry, their strength, but also the ability for the two of them to lift each other up when no one else could. Even when the relationship wasn’t romantic (which, to be fair, is most of the series), they were still there for each other.

More than that, we learned time and time again over the years on Suits that when Donna & Harvey are at the peak of their ability, there is no crooked lawyer or snarly opponent who could stand a chance against the two them. Harvey’s arguments, coupled with Donna’s ingenuity, made the two almost impenetrable.

Wynonna & Nicole, Wynonna Earp (#2 seed) – These two need more scenes and episodes together — though we feel like most of you knew that. Right now, the priority is to just make sure that we get more episodes of Wynonna Earp period. The series is in the midst of a lengthy, IDW-imposed hiatus, and we still don’t know exactly what the future is going to hold. What we do know, though, is that Wynonna Earp and Nicole Haught bring just about everything that you could want to a scene — heart, power, humor, and so much more. They may have different approaches to problem-solving, but we’ve certainly seen through three seasons that they both work.

For now, let’s cross our fingers and hope that we continue to see WynHaught on our televisions in the future — Wynonna & Nicole getting to the final four here in the first place is yet another testament to the power and devolution of Wynonna Earp fans all over the world.
