NCIS season 16 episode 23 spoilers: Gibbs unravels in ‘Lost Time’
However, things are clearly changing. Following the events of “She,” where he came to realize that getting personally invested in a case wasn’t so bad a thing, he eventually shook up one of the biggest rules in which he lived by. Following that, on this past episode, he struggled with the news that his former fiancee had been murdered, and wasn’t actually killed in the manner everyone thought. It brought back up painful memories and throughout the case, he was forced to look at his own rules in a new light once more. This change in him seemed to start with Ziva and then move into Bishop, and now, he’s not the same guy anymore on that level. Most of the rest of the DNA is the same, but there is a disturbance in the force.
Through episode 23 entitled “Lost Time,” you’ll see just what happens when this disturbance causes him some problems while working a case in a rather surprising way. Below, CarterMatt has the full synopsis below with some additional info:
“Lost Time” – The NCIS team investigates the murder of a Marine Sergeant in the States who was hailed as a war hero for his efforts overseas. Also, Gibbs turns to Doctor Grace Confalone (Laura San Giacomo) for advice after he uncharacteristically unravels and abandons his team at a crime scene investigation, on NCIS, Tuesday, May 14 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

So what makes Gibbs unravel? That’s the big question that we point to and scratch our head over, given that nothing about this case on the surface feels like something that would cause Gibbs to have any different a reaction that he typically would. Maybe there was just a trigger within it that caused him to reflect on a lot of the recent stuff that he’s going through. Or, maybe there’s something about this specific case that reminds him of some things that he has personally gone through. Either way, it’s clear that there are going to be some interesting emotional reverberations that come through his conversations with Dr. Confalone, ones that could define him moving into the final episode of the season. We don’t anticipate that Mark Harmon’s character is ever going to be a completely new person, but some tweaks here and there are still certainly welcome.
