The Orville season 2 episode 14 (finale) spoilers: ‘The Road Not Taken’

Next week, The Orville season 2 episode 14 is blasting onto Fox … and it’s the final episode of the season. That’s scary, but not as scary as the fact that it could be the final episode of the series. There’s no official renewal just yet, and while we want to remain hopeful, we recognize that there are no guarantees — Fox has already canceled two of their shows in The Gifted and Rel, so really, we should just be happy that this show wasn’t included as a part of that mix.

So what’s actually coming in terms of the story ahead? Consider “The Road Not Taken” to be so much more than just the title of a Robert Frost poem. It’s a chance to directly continue the story from tonight’s episode, one themed around Adrianne Palicki’s character. Ultimately, be prepared for a story that should be a little bit about chaos, a little bit about imagination, and hopefully, about the family that has formed aboard this ship. We know that there is always going to be that temptation for any show to create a huge cliffhanger between the end of one season and the start of the next one, but we don’t really think that The Orville needs that. It really just needs to rely on telling one of the best stories that it possibly can, complete with an emotional arc and a memorable finish.

In other words, it shouldn’t change anything that it’s done for the entirety of the season just because we’re near the end of it. There’s no real sense in them doing that. Keep the focus on space travel, the characters, and this great mythology that you’ve been building. Don’t get crazy, and the fans will be there for you. We just hope that Fox is when it comes to handing down great news on a season 3.
