The Flash season 5 episode 19 preview: Caitlin & her father reunite

Next week, The Flash is bringing you season 5 episode 19 entitled “Snow Pack.” It’s a chance to bring back Kyle Secor as Caitlin’s father … and with that, also some family warfare. This is not the same Thomas Snow the family once knew — he’s been corrupted and transformed over time into something different, something dangerous that needs to be stopped. That obviously, in turn, puts Caitlin herself in a difficult position. She has to go to war against her father, and in doing that, she’s going to realize along the way that she’s going to need help from a most-unexpected source: Her mother. They haven’t had the best relationship, to put that lightly.

So while this episode may have a lot of icy subject matter (pun OBVIOUSLY intended), we do still think that there’s going to be something akin to a warm, gooey center underneath. For a little bit more news all about that, we simply suggest that you check out the official synopsis below:

ICICLE RETURNS – When Icicle (guest star Kyle Secor) returns to enact the next phase of his devious plan, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and her mother, Dr. Carla Tannhauser (guest star Susan Walters), must resolve their long-combative relationship to defeat the icy monster. After Barry (Grant Gustin) makes a big decision about their family without consulting her, Iris (Candice Patton) decides to take matters into her own hands. Jeff Cassidy directed the episode written by Jonathan Butler & Gabriel Garza (#519). Original airdate 4/23/2019.

Throughout this episode, we hope that there’s some closure for Caitlin … though this doesn’t really take away from the fact that the writers really haven’t given us all that much with this story in the first place. We don’t think that the legend of Icicle or Caitlin’s backstory is anywhere near as immersive as we thought it was going to be entering this season; the same goes with everything Cisco’s been going through, which has felt virtually nonexistent at times.

So what’s coming up beyond what’s happening with Caitlin? Well, it’s going to be interesting potentially seeing Iris be the member of the West-Allen family who is bringing everyone together. When Nora first arrived, she was quick to push her mother away because of the relationship the two had in the future. She didn’t know her father, and now, she’s going to be getting to know him in a contentious light. Iris could be one of the few people who helps Barry to see and understand a different side, one where there’s a greater sense of context to what’s going on with his daughter. We don’t think that she purposefully did something bad or with any intention to hurt the family.
