NCIS season 16 episode 22 spoilers: The secret bank account returns

Based on some of the earliest information that is out there about NCIS season 16 episode 22, this could be one of the most important episodes of the season. Remember that secret government bank account, the one that may have connections to Secretary of Defense Wynn Crawford? That’s coming back in a big way within this episode, which is entitled “…and Executioner” and is airiing on Tuesday, May 7.

For the time being, CBS is being reasonably cryptic as to what you can expect within this episode; they have yet to announce any guest cast, for example, which makes it currently unclear as to whether or not Mitch Pileggi will be coming back. It makes sense for him to! He’s the man behind Crawford, and we certainly found him to be quite formidable the last time that we saw him on this show.

All CBS is releasing, for now, can be found in the attached synopsis:

“…and Executioner” – After NCIS finds a secret government bank account that’s funding a nationwide network of vigilante justice, the team must determine who is acting as judge and jury, on NCIS, Tuesday, May 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

We’ve said for a little while now that there are two NCIS stories that CBS is really designating must-watch — you’ve got what is going on right now with Crawford and the bank account, and then you’ve also got the storyline with Ziva that stems back to the events of “She” from earlier this season. While we cannot confirm that will be back for the final episode or two of this season, it does feel curious that the writers are choosing to take on Crawford here rather than in episode 23 or 24. Does that mean that they are saving something else rather powerful for those installments? It’s at least something to think about.

Given that NCIS does, in fact, have that season 17 renewal, we still can’t rule out the idea of the Ziva story leading to a cliffhanger, something that the writers are going to pick up again in a big way when we roll around to the fall. All of this, for now, is just info to story somewhere in the back of your head; we’ll see if it rises to prominence soon.
