The Enemy Within episode 9 preview: Shepherd, Keaton spy on the CIA

The Enemy Within

Moving into The Enemy Within episode 9 on NBC next week, you’re going to have a rare opportunity to see Keaton and Shepherd in new roles. For most of this season, they’ve worked in order to gather intelligence and try to stop Tal once and for all. Moving into this episode, however, they will be spying on one of their own government agencies in the CIA.

What’s going on here? As it turns out, there are questions surrounding whether or not the CIA is handing Tal the right way — or, if they have their own secret agenda that they are not passing on. This is the obvious concern that we’ve got entering this episode, that all of the work that Keaton and his team has done has been in vain. When branches of law enforcement don’t work together, everyone loses on the other side. It leads to confusion and, beyond that, the bad guys getting the leg up.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official The Enemy Within episode 9 synopsis with some other news as to what’s coming up:

04/22/2019 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Monday) : After a major Tal operative escapes CIA custody, Shepherd returns to Langley to help track the fugitive down. When Shepherd and Keaton discover the CIA are withholding vital information on the Tal investigation, the case becomes an opportunity for Shepherd and Keaton to spy on the CIA and find out what they know.

This is an episode that will force uncertainly allies to put some of that nervousness to the side. It’s a different sort of position than one we’ve seen Keaton in for the bulk of the series, given that he’s been forced to put most of his distrust over on Shepherd. He hasn’t had time for a whole lot else. This episode is going to be one that tests whatever relationship that Keaton and Shepherd have at this point, and also one that makes you wonder how seriously the CIA is taking this particular case. They better be putting it in the crosshairs given that without it, they’re going to be in a difficult position of having to explain themselves down the line. Do you think that Keaton is going to let this go?

We’re at this point in this season where there needs to be action and there needs to be forward movement given that otherwise, we’re going to see the search for Tal crumble … and we need there to be some element of resolution at the end of the season. We do think that this storyline is one that should be resolved by the end of the season; that way, there is a chance for The Enemy Within as a series to move forward and take on some other subject matter.
