The Blacklist season 6 episode 19 is going to be the second of two episodes that air on the night, and based on our own estimations, this could be one of the most important ones of the series. “Rassvet” is bringing back Outlander actress Lotte Verbeek as Katarina Rostova, obviously one of the most important people in the entire mythology for this show. We’ve come to know a few different things about Liz Keen’s mother, but there’s still one hugely important question out in the ether: What actually happened to her? This is the episode that may look to resolve that, as we’re going to have a great chance to see Katarina’s backstory. We’ll learn more about who she is, what makes her tick, and (hopefully) connect her to everything else happening in the present.
So why get this story now? Our feeling is that a lot of it stems from what is happening at the moment with Ressler. We know that he’s digging for answers on her past, and as of right now in the present, he’s found someone who could be her biological mother. Maybe these flashbacks demonstrate some of the information that he finds. (We’re at least assuming that these are flashbacks, given that otherwise, you are going to have to age up Verbeek significantly plus come up with an explanation as to where she is and why in the present.)

Is it possible that this episode will not feature the majority of The Blacklist’s series regulars? As crazy as that seems, it’s certainly possible — it could be a little bit like the legendary “Cape May” episode (pictured above) in its style, though that episode did at least have James Spader featured prominently in it. We don’t want to make too many assumptions based on one synopsis … but we’re still going out on a limb here and saying that this sounds like it could be rather awesome, and the episode of this twisted show we’ve been waiting too behold.
