When Calls the Heart renewed for season 7 at Hallmark Channel

When Calls the Heart

Just in case you were concerned that the recent headlines around When Calls the Heart would hurt its long-term future, don’t be. Today, Hallmark Channel made it very clear that they remain very much committed to the future of this series.

In a new video below via the network’s official Instagram, star Erin Krakow announced that there will be a season 7 for the long-running drama set to premiere at some point in 2020. This news comes days after Hallmark revealed when the show will be returning following the network’s self-induced hiatus, which came following Lori Loughlin’s arrest in the college cheating scandal. As already reported both in article and video form (check out more of that below and subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube), the producers are editing out Lori’s character of Abigail from upcoming episodes and thanks to some minor reshoots, the story will work without her moving forward. It’s pretty evident at this point that Loughlin is not going to be returning for a season 7 — she’s already been fired from all Crown Media projects.

With season 7, the network will be able to fully escape the shadow of Loughlin and all of the news from the past several weeks, while also continuing to tell more powerful stories from Hope Valley.

Commercially, there was every reason in the world for Hallmark to bring When Calls the Heart back, given that season 6 is currently averaging better ratings on average than season 5. (Obviously, the numbers are a little misleading because with such a small handful of episodes so far in season 6, the Christmas Special is bumping up the average number.) It’s one of the network’s landmark shows regardless of whatever the average ends up being, and we know that there is a spin-off series entitled When Hope Calls that is heading to Hallmark Movies Now in the future. This show is a real tentpole for them to go along with their abundance of original movies — and clearly, not something that they want to see go anywhere in the immediate future.

To all of the Hearties out there who have stuck with this show through thick and thin, here’s a big message of congratulations! Also, let’s hope that there is even more great news coming on the subject of the show and its story moving forward. Clearly, there’s a lot more to tell for a good many of these characters!
