‘True Blood’: Alexander Skarsgard talks ’50 Shades of Grey’ rumors
This seems to be the trend in Hollywood these days: if you are an actor on a vampire show with a ton of avid supporters, you are automatically in consideration to play Christian Grey in the “50 Shades of Grey” move. We first saw this with Ian Somerhalder of “The Vampire Diaries.” Now, the talk is all around “True Blood” actor Alexander Skarsgard.
So does Skarsgard really want the part? That is one topic worth debating on, and the question did come up in a recent interview he gave with the Wall Street Journal in order to promote the latest Calvin Klein fragrance. His response? That it’s really impossible to know whether or not you want a role without at first reading the script:
“I haven’t read the books. I know how tremendously successful they are and how people are obsessed, so of course I’m flattered if some people out there wants to see me do that. But it’s difficult to say. Step one is always read the script for me. I get the script, I read it and then I feel something or I don’t. You either connect and you feel like this is a character that you want to spend a couple of months with or you don’t. Or you feel like I’m going to learn something about myself in working on creating this character. Or you’re not challenged by it. Or you’re not intrigued. So it’s so difficult to say before having read the script whether you are interested in it or not.”
Really, the problem we have with this rumor is the same one that we have with many others: Christian Grey is supposed to only be 26 years old, and Skarsgard is 36. Plus, there’s also the issue of trying to work a filming schedule around his work on the HBO show, and this is the same problem you run into if you want an Ian Somerhalder or Matt Bomer.
What do you think about these rumors, and do you think that Skarsgard would be a good Christian?

Alexander Skarsgard is the “Christian Grey” as he emobides everything CG. Regardless if AS is 36 yrs old, I agree that the age can be bumped up for the movie and it is more believeable that a 36 yrs old would have amassed all that success and wealth at that age. AS is an incredibly sensual, sexy and hot looking man who’s pants, I’m sure, hang just off his hips as CGs does. He has that copper hair and would have no problem running his hands through his hair so it falls just over his eyes. AS has that smoldering stare and he’s 6’4″ (just like CG). Plus, doesn’t his character on True Blood have his own “…room of pain”?
Alexander Skarsgard is the perfect Christian Grey…I’m just saying! ;)

After some of the scenes he’s done in True Blood I should imagine the 50 Shades scenes won’t be too much of a shock for him. He would be a great Christian as he has the looks and is very sexy ;)

I think he would be lovely, so bump the age up a bit, it is not unheard of in Hollywood as the film is based on the novel. And it was just a bit ridiculous to begin with what his being so fabulously wealthy at such a young age, a person who looks older could pull it off, as the character has gone through so much it has jaded him. He would be wonderful in the role. Besides the fact that Alexander can actually act, I say give him the role if he wants it.

Since the screen play has not been written yet, we don’t know the age of Christian Gray. Granted in the books, Christian is a wealthy 26 year old. But as we all know, screenplays are rarely the same as the book they are written from. Changes are made to the source material. I think making Christian a bit older makes perfect sense.
For me, whoever plays Christian Gray has to have that certain factor to their acting. Alexander has it. He has that intense stare that says I am as sexy as hell but also incredibly dangerous. That is Christian Gray in a nut shell. A very complex character who is capable considerable cruelty and manipulations but tender and caring. Its a fine line.
Lets hope the screenplay is written better than the books. Crosses fingers that Alexander is interested after reading the script. Filming schedules can be manipulated. It will work out if its meant to be.
