The Resident season 2 episode 22 spoilers: Is Chastain falling apart?

The Resident

The Resident wouldn’t be the show that it is unless just about every aspect of the hospital was in some degree of jeopardy, and that is precisely where we are now entering one of the final episodes of the season. The big issue that we’re seeing at the end of this season isn’t so much patient-related; instead, it’s about the financial state of Chastain and whether or not it can handle the latest problems that are being thrown at it.

Should we really be shocked by the hospital in financial crisis? Probably not when you think about what it’s been through this past year or two — think in terms of the Dr. Lane Hunter disaster, everything that went down with Quovadis, crisis caused by bad weather, and all sorts of turnaround when it comes to key leadership positions. We know that Marshall wanted to try to set up the hospital better, but with him not around as much, is that really the spot that it’s now in? We’re not so sure about that.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official The Resident season 2 episode 22 synopsis, which shows that at least one character is starting to get creative with their methods of trying to improve Chastain’s situation:

When a lottery winner is admitted to the hospital, Bell turns to him as a potential solution to Chastain’s financial problems. Nic becomes infuriated when Alec (guest star Miles Gaston Villanueva) suggests she meet with an organ broker in hopes of saving Jessie’s life, but after her other ideas fail, she brings the idea to Conrad. Meanwhile, Devon and Irving help Mina piece together details from her night out after The Raptor sidelines her for an upcoming surgery in the all-new “Broker and Broker” episode of THE RESIDENT airing Monday, April 29 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (RES-222) (TV-14 D, L, V)

Isn’t this really signature Dr. Bell? In one way, him trying to find more money for the hospital is admirable … but he’s probably trying to do it at the expense of some naïve millionaire who probably doesn’t understand how to be responsible with money. It’s going to be entertaining, but probably not the most morally responsible storyline of all time. That’s something we feel like we can say with relative confidence.

As for what else we’ve got featured in this synopsis, we remain absolutely worried that Jessie is going to die by the end of the season and that could leave Nic reeling and scrambling for more meaning in her life. Meanwhile, what happened to make Mina have a wild night out right before surgery? It’s not the most Mina-like thing we have seen her do, just as it’s not the typically sort of thing that we see from AJ to sideline her. The guy knows how good she is, so for him to do this is a sign that whatever happened had him seriously worried that she wasn’t going to be up for the job.
