What is coming on Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 21? Before we get to a deep discussion of the story, we have to proclaim first that you’re going to be waiting a while to see it. Following the powerful episode “The Good Girl” tonight, the NBC series is taking a week off. It could be one of the last hiatuses of the season, or at least we hope so since that will give us a chance to see the show start to build some momentum.

Do we know that most SVU episodes are standalone in nature? Sure, but we do think that there’s still something to the concept of having a solid run of episodes to close things off. Plus, we know that there is at least one element of continuity as we get to the end of the season, as Titus Welliver is going to be returning as Rob Miller for the final episodes. If you’re looking for the show to have some sort of notable villain as the story closes out, he could be it.

Yet, Miller’s not a focus for season 20 episode 21. This story, entitled “Exchange,” is really all about the SVU being a voice for someone who is voiceless and overlooked in society. It’s about protecting a foreign exchange student, the sort of person who likely came to America bright-eyed and preparing to educate themselves so that they can have a better life. They subject themselves to loneliness, isolation, and at times bigotry and xenophobia. This episode will feature Benson trying to do whatever they can in order to stand up for her, at a time when perhaps no one else will.

For some other news on what’s ahead, we recommend that you check out the official SVU season 20 episode 21 synopsis right now:

04/25/2019 (10:00 PM – 11:00 PM) (Thursday) : Benson (Mariska Hargitay) helps a teenaged exchange student after she’s assaulted by a cab driver. Also starring Ice T, Kelli Giddish and Peter Scanavino. Guest starring Anna Van Patten (Emilia Barassi), Isabella Pisacane (Lara Barassi), Darren Goldstein (Richard Matthews) and Erin Dilly (Mary Matthews). TV-14 D, L, S, V

This is an episode that’s certainly important thematically — mostly, it’s another reminder of what SVU as a show is really all about! It’s a story of watching people give their all and expect little and return. At times, some of these people may not have anything to offer back and that doesn’t matter. What matters is being there.
