‘American Idol’ notes: Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, Steven Tyler

After a few days of craziness in the world of “American Idol,” we are down back to a fairly reasonably level of calm … at least unless you are talking about the drama surrounding Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.

However, what is interesting here is that the story that we have to talk about today is actually coming from someone who is not even a part of the judging panel anymore: Steven Tyler. Speaking briefly to TMZ when they caught him out in Los Angeles, the Aerosmith frontman or less said that in his mind, the fight between these two women was probably orchestrated in some way by production. The producers have seemingly denied these claims in a new statement.

Finally, Tyler said that he has no plans to ever return to the show, but we’re not so broken up about that considering that he has his own tour to worry about, and save for the audition rounds he wasn’t really the most useful judge in the world, anyway.

Recording notes – There is nothing major to report here from either Phillip Phillips or Jessica Sanchez, but we should say that the two have been back in the studio this week working on laying down some more tracks for their debut albums. Phillip in particular has been working with a number of people to perfect his mix of rock and jazz, and his album should musically end up being a pretty interesting treat to listen to. Above all, we’re just happy that producers are giving him enough time to really work on it, and are not forcing him to try and rush something out before it’s ready now.

We will have some more major news on progress when it is ready, but we are sure Phillip’s “Home” and Jessica’s recent “Fairy Tale” will be a part of their new albums.
