‘Once Upon a Time’ season 2 spoilers: Regina on Dr. Whale mystery

While it may have just been a brief moment during last week’s season 2 premiere for “Once Upon a Time,” one of the moments that we were clearly the most interested in was the confrontation that happened between Dr. Whale (David Anders) as well as David / Charming. Why? This moment showed us that not everyone knows who Dr. Whale is in the fairy tale world, and he is one of the few people with this distinction; in addition, he also made a suggestion that Charming is not “his prince,” which is a rather ambiguous statement that opens up a lot of doors for discussion.

So does the Evil Queen have a little bit of a better idea just who he is? It’s possible, and Lana Parrilla does her best to explain the situation with the “good” doctor in a chat with TVLine:

“Yeah, David is like, ‘Who are you?’ and they get very confrontational over it. There’s a reason for that. A lot of the fans are guessing, and that’s exactly what we want them to do. There are, I think, one or two characters that know who he is.”

So when are we finally going to learn just who Anders’ character really is? That answer is supposedly going to be coming in the fifth episode of the season entitled “The Doctor,” and we have heard all sorts of crazy guesses here suggesting that the character is everyone from the whale in Pinocchio to Peter Pan to King Arthur to even Jack the Giant-Killer. It’s fun to speculate, but we’ll also be far happier once we actually know the answer for sure.
