Entering Line of Duty season 5 episode 3 next week, what we could be seeing is McQueen’s mettle tested once more.
Early on this season, the easy assumption to make was that she was the undercover officer and not Corbett. After all, she seemed to be the one struggling the most with the rigors of the job and some of the tough stuff that she was routinely being asked to do. Some of these struggles include trying to find a way to do violent, criminal acts — and the struggles aren’t stopping for her anytime soon.
For some more scoop on that, just take a look at the official Line of Duty season 5 episode 3 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below:
Corbett’s (Stephen Graham) most daring plan yet requires McQueen (Rochenda Sandall) to exploit links with corrupt police officers. AC-12 make a shocking discovery.
There are some other questions worth pondering here at the moment, with the chief one being whether or not Corbett is truly extraordinary at his job, or if he’s actually turned? What McQueen does is so much more dangerous if she’s being ordered by a man who really does not care. We want to believe in Corbett, but we presume that there will be a certain element of him towing a line throughout some of the episodes coming up where we’d like to believe him if at all possible, but that some of his actions end up making that a little bit more challenging than it should otherwise be. Loyalty and motive are two of the questions you can almost always ponder with this series, whether you are talking about AC-12 or some of their targets.
We do think that some answers to your oft-burning questions could be coming within this episode but note that we’re just in episode 3. We’re fairly early on in the run right now and there are more obstacles, roadblocks, and struggles that we need to pass through before creator Jed Mercurio is going to grant some sort of interesting, viable answers that we can actually trust. There’s no real reason for him right now to drop any reveals too early, even if this is a show with only a six-episode season. Patience can be a virtue … but don’t drop everything all at once at the very end to the point where we don’t understand much of anything either. That does no one any good and just ends up rattling all of our collective cages.
